How to Transfer Pokemon from Pokemon Yellow to Pokemon HOME

If you’re using the original Game Boy cartridge:

The original version of Pokémon Yellow cannot connect to modern games. These cartridges were only compatible with other Game Boy Pokémon games and do not support any official transfer methods to DS or beyond.

⚠️ Pokémon on original Yellow cannot be moved to Pokémon HOME.

If you’re using the 3DS Virtual Console version:

Transferring Pokémon from Pokémon Yellow (VC) is supported. You’ll need:

  • A Nintendo 3DS with Poké Transporter and Pokémon Bank installed
  • A Premium Plan for Pokémon HOME
  • The 3DS VC version of Yellow on the same system

Open Poké Transporter, which will read your VC save and allow you to send Pokémon from Box 1 to Pokémon Bank. Only Pokémon in Box 1 can be moved, so organize your PC beforehand.

Then open Pokémon Bank, move the Pokémon from the Transport Box into your main Bank storage boxes, and save your progress. Next, on your Nintendo Switch, open Pokémon HOME, go to “Move” > “Move from Pokémon Bank,” and generate a Move Key.

Return to Bank on your 3DS, input the Move Key, and complete the transfer. These Pokémon will now appear in HOME. Once transferred, they cannot return to Bank or the VC game.
