If you’re using the original Game Boy cartridge:

The original Pokémon Red cartridge cannot connect to any modern transfer systems. There is no supported path to move Pokémon directly from Red into newer generations.

⚠️ Pokémon from original Red cannot be transferred to Pokémon HOME.

If you’re using the 3DS Virtual Console version:

Transferring from Pokémon Red (VC) to Pokémon HOME is supported through the official pipeline. You’ll need:

• A 3DS with Poké Transporter and Pokémon Bank
• The VC version of Pokémon Red on the same 3DS
• A Premium Pokémon HOME Plan

Launch Poké Transporter and let it detect your Pokémon Red save. It will access Box 1 of your PC — make sure the Pokémon you want to move are stored there before you begin. Send them to Pokémon Bank’s Transport Box.

Then open Pokémon Bank, move the Pokémon into your regular Bank boxes, and save. On your Nintendo Switch, open Pokémon HOME, select “Move from Pokémon Bank,” and generate your Move Key.

Go back to Pokémon Bank on your 3DS, select “Move Pokémon to Pokémon HOME,” enter the Move Key, and the transfer will begin. The Pokémon will appear in HOME shortly after. This move is permanent, and the Pokémon cannot be returned to Bank or VC Red.
